Here we go with a post-script autopsy of Transformers Spotlight: Hardhead, the second part of the “Revelation” quartet. As spoiler-free as possible but there are some wicked teases. Be warned. Once again, the challenge here was to both create a rounded (complete in one issue) character focus and maintain the breathless, headlong forward pace of the main Revelation/Dead Universe arc (begun in earnest in Spotlight: Cyclonus). Heaps going on, and much of it centres on Nightbeat and Gorlam Prime (the planet from Spotlight: Nightbeat). In many ways, this turned into something of a sequel to Spotlight: Nightbeat (just as part 3, Doubledealer, became a sequel of sorts to Spotlight: Hot Rod), furthering/concluding much of the stuff set up therein. How does Hardhead fit in? Well let’s just say that who he is and what he does within the framework of the IDW/TF-verse makes him the perfect foil for Nightbeat as he investigates his missing memories. Hardhead is, for want of a better expression, a “problem solver.” How that plays into Nightbeat’s predicament provides one of the TF/IDW-verse’s most gobsmacking, heartstopping payoffs to date! Plus, a whole host of Micromasters (how many? Ask Nick Roche. He had to draw all the little beggars). And more on the Autobots’ BIG problem, the furtherance of Arcee’s quest, all-out action from The Wreckers and, of course, Nova/Nemesis Prime (and the rest of the Dead Universe cast). Spotlight: Hardhead ships in July.
Yay Micromasters.
Woo Hoo. I’m really looking forward to this. Just wanted to say that the characterisation of Hardhead has been one of the highlights of IDWs TFs for me.
Well, thats another Spotlight that ticks all my fanboy geek-boxes….
I am looking forward to this.
Can’t ait for revelation to kick off, and it sounds like this is going to be another excellent comic
. I don’t suppose you’ve managed to find the time to look at my Beast Era script yet, have you Simon?
If you ask me, I will tell that stories told in spotlights are way better than the one told in the ongoing series. My concern is, what will you do, Mr Furman when get to the where you have written spotlights about every transformers known to the world?
) I know there’s plenty left, but what then? Do you consider writing continuations such as for example TF: Spotlight: NAME_HERE #2 ?
here’s the situation

I imagine that we will all be very very old by the time to 400+ G1 Transformers are all covered! Not to mention any newer IDW-centric characters that may one day make the cut!
And then there’s the characters from other ranges that may one daybe tackled… :$
Also, for what it’s worth, I would bet that a ‘Spotlight: Hot Rod #2′ is more likely to be made before all TFs have had an initial Spotlight…
I think given the amount of characters just in G1/G2, I doubt it’ll ever become a pressing concern…
one of the most heart stopping reads iv seen from u mate
My heart’s just stopped. I might need help getting to the comic shop!
I don’t think that we need to worry about running out of characters for spotlights, but lets pray that the series lasts that long!
I simply LOVE the IDW take of Hardhead – whom, before Simon re-worked him, was only memorable as “the Bot Unicron stepped on” and maybe for his awefull karaoke singing…
I wouldn’t be surprised if the Micromasters would be Jhiaxus’ experiments, turning Gorlam Prime’s citizens into transformers… that’d explain the planet’s manipulated evolution towards cybernetic prosthetics and why these new TFs are so small. There’s another Mystery for Nightbeat! But… why did Galvatron need Nightbeat in the first place? What did they do to his brain? Now there’s the rub…
