As a distinct change of pace (from the world of robots, Turtles and so forth), I’ve recently been writing some feature articles for a new movie magazine from Eaglemoss (UK). Titled The Horror Collection, and featuring New Line Cinema’s trio of slasher icons, Freddy Krueger (from A Nightmare on Elm Street), Jason Voorhees (Friday the 13th) and Leatherface (Texas Chainsaw Massacre), the fortnightly magazine contains a wealth of information on each featured movie and a die-cast metal figure. There’s nothing from me in issue #1 (which focuses on the first A Nightmare on Elm Street), but issue #2 contains my disgressions on the background to original (1974) The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (in particular, the real life cases that inspired it) and the movie locations. Issue #3 focuses on Friday The 13th part 3, and my contribution is an article on the genesis of the whole Friday the 13th phenomenon. Been good fun this. I’m a huge movie buff, and getting paid to watch/research movies is my idea of heaven. Okay, Freddy, Jason and Leatherface aren’t exactly oscar contenders, but I love the creative processes that go into film-making, and there’s plenty of good stuff to be had in each issue. Oh, and then there’s the die-cast figurines (individually sculpted, cast in lead and hand-painted), which are just amazing. For more information go to
